Andruss
David T. Andruss (born 1803, died 1832) and brother George W. Andruss (born 1806, died 1860)
were sons of Jonathan Andruss and manufactured planes from 1821-41.
The firm advertised “wholesale and retail plane manufacturing” and “coach making tools of every description”.
Andruss was listed in the 1837-38 Newark, NJ directory as “Plane Factory” at 150 Washington St.
This was the same address used by Thomas Burns from 1836-38.
Imprints were often carelessly applied and the name is sometimes inverted.
Andruss and King as a firm listed in Newark in 1847, possibly with George W. Andruss as one of the partners.
It advertised as making improved plough & fillister planes.
