Benton Evans
Benton Evans & Co was a Rochester, NY plane making partnership of James S. Benton (Born 1805 in CT, died 1867) and Evan Evans (born 1811 in NYC) during the period 1834-38.

The business was announced by an ad placed in the Rochester Daily Democrat on April 8, 1834 by L. Kennedy Jr.

James S Benton was listed as a planemaker in 1832 and as agent for Leonard Kennedy Jr. in Utica NY, in 1833

Between 1838 and 1855 Benton worked mainly for D.R. Barton in Rochester, NY.

Benton was listed as a planemaker in the 1850 census.

After 1855 he was in the canal mercantile trade.

Evans was employed by Utica planemaker John Reed in 1829 and was listed as a planemaker in Rochester from 1834-41.

He was partner in E & J Evans with James Evans starting in 1841.
