E Baldwin History
E Baldwin
Enos Baldwin (born June 28, 1783 in Cavendish, VT, Died 1829 in NYC) was the father to Austin & Eldridge Gerry Baldwin (AE Baldwin) to whom he taught planemaking and who succeeded him as A & E Baldwin in 1830
Enos made planes starting in 1807 in Albany, NY, in Newburgh NY in 1815 and in New York City from 1822-29.
An advertisement in The Statesman published in New York City on April 23, 1824 illustrated a fore plan and a molder by "ENOS BALDWIN", Planemaker, No 90 Elizabeth Street, N.Y. and offered a general assortment of carpenter's joiners, coopers, cabinet and coachmakers planes.
Eldridge Baldwin continued uner the name E. Baldwin, 1842-50 after A & E Baldwin ceased operations in 1841 using the same E. BALDWIN stamp as his father.
